Fly Fishing for Brown Trout, Steelhead, King Salmon and Coho Salmon in Northwest Michigan Mike Marsh - Guide
I'm Mike Marsh and I grew up in the town of West Olive, Michigan, along the banks of Pigeon Creek that flows into Lake Michigan just north of Holland. From a very early age, I was always in the creek looking for fish, nymphs, frogs, turtles, any thing that would catch my eye in the water. As I reached the age of 10, I would ride my bike miles from home, to fish the Grand River for walleye, catfish, bass, pike, and huge carp. As a teenager, I fished local bass and catfish tournaments. Our family would travel all over the state for my father's job as a bridge builder, so I got many chances to perfect my fishing skills on the rivers and lakes in northern Michigan.

We often vacationed at my uncle's cabin on the main branch of the Pere Marquette River in the spring, summer, fall, and the winter. Fishing the Pere Marquette River for trout, salmon, and steelhead at the age of 12 it was all I had ever dreamed it would be. Since those days, I have enjoyed 20 years of Lake Michigan salmon fishing and 9 years of guiding fly fishing excursions on Michigan's, Pere Marquette River, Manistee River, Muskegon River, and Pine River.

I am now a licensed Michigan, U.S. Forest Service Permitted River Guide and have a lifetime of fishing knowledge and experience to pass on to anyone fishing with me. I take pride in the dry flies and streamers that I tie. I have learned a lot from my fellow guides and paid close attention to their detail. This has made me a better fly fisherman, enabling my clients to learn from me. In addition, I am now setting lines on Lake Michigan, for Captain Roger Haynor, and I am a investor in Evolution Sport Fishing Charters, a Lake Michigan, fishing charter service. I love what I do, fly fishing Michigan's trout streams and fishing on Lake Michigan, on the Evolution charter boat. Fishing is what I am. I always let my fishing do the talking.

Fly Fishing for Brown Trout, Steelhead, King Salmon and Coho Salmon in Northwest Michigan Gene Lake - Guide
' I've been fishing the rivers of northern michigan since I was 6 yrs. old with my father. He was a major influence in the early stages of my outdoor life. We used every method of fishing from flies, spinners, crankbaits, to spawn, whichever technique was working the best for the time and conditions at the time.
Since that time I've fished every major river system in northern michigan from the St. Joe in the south to the Pigeon-Sturgeon-Black river systems in the Pigeon River Country forest in the north, and am constantly learning and searching for the next best tactic and fly pattern. I tie my own flies and am always trying to improve and adapt with differing conditions and fishing situations, you never know it all in mother natures world.

I've been professionally guiding for 12 yrs. and learned a great deal from many old timers that were here before me and have been open and honest, such influential people as John Hunter, fellow guide, friend, and my boss for many years, and a great guide in his own right for over 30 yrs.
I have been blessed with a great deal of patience and teaching ability handed down from my father and love the father-son/ husband-wife trips. It makes my day to teach a new fly fisherman the proper way to rig and fish the technique we are using at the time, and help them to hook and land their first steelhead or salmon on a fly rod in the river, the look on their face is priceless.

I have guided people on the rivers from all over the world including: Australia, the U.K, Germany, Russia, and various areas from around the U.S. and have learned how to work with different age groups, personalities, and nationalities on a day to day basis.
I also work very hard to make your time on the river the most memorable and enjoyable trip that I can and also hope everyone that I fish with learns a great deal while they are with me.
Tight lines to everyone- Gene Lake- aka-Geno
